There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to fully understanding self-care. I only recently realized my own ignorance on the topic. Often times, self-care is thought of as interchangeable with physical care and personal hygiene. We hear it and think of things like showering, taking our medications, remembering to eat, and resting our bodies. After that, we’re done, right? Wrong. Self-care goes far beyond these few actions, and many of us are not giving ourselves all that we truly need. Self care is an integral part of everyday life when living with a chronic illness. In fact, it should be the very top priority. But what exactly is self-care?
